FBI Accused of Covering Up ‘Criminal Information’ Related to Biden Family Given By 40 Informants

In the latest bombshell “weaponization” allegation against federal agencies, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said he’d obtained whistleblower information that the FBI gathered intelligence from over 40 human sources about possible wrongdoing by members of the Biden family, but then its Washington office tried to bury it.

The FBI received information from a network of over 40 confidential sources who provided “criminal information” about President Joe Biden, his brother James Biden, and his son Hunter Biden, Mr. Grassley wrote in an Oct. 24 letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Mr. Grassley said that “multiple credible whistleblowers” told him that the Justice Department (DOJ) and the FBI both tried to “shut down investigative activity relating to the Biden family,” according to the letter, which was seen by The Epoch Times.

Some of the alleged efforts to downplay or bury investigative leads into the Biden family were taken on the pretext that they were “foreign disinformation,” the senator wrote.

In particular, Mr. Grassley said he was told that an FBI task force within the Washington Field Office tried to and, in some cases, succeeded in suppressing the information from the confidential human sources by falsely discrediting it as foreign disinformation.

President Joe Biden has denied any wrongdoing or involvement in his family’s business affairs.

The Epoch Times has reached out to the FBI and DOJ with a request for comment, with the FBI confirming receipt of Mr. Grassley’s letter but declining comment.

Negative Hunter Biden Info ‘Improperly’ Discredited

Some of the information provided by confidential human sources, which were managed by different FBI field offices, was deemed to be disinformation by FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst Brian Auten, per the letter.

Mr. Auten’s report was used by ”an FBI HQ team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease,” according to Mr. Grassley.

“The precise basis for how the FBI HQ team selected the specific information for inclusion in Auten’s assessment is unknown, but the focus of the FBI HQ team’s attention involved derogatory information about Hunter Biden and Joe Biden,” Mr. Grassley wrote.

The conduct of Mr. Auten, who was once the FBI’s top Russian analyst, was earlier singled out for rebuke by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who in 2019 issued a report detailing how Mr. Auten cut corners in verifying the contents of the infamous Steele Dossier.

The dossier was a collection of salacious allegations created for then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign, seeking to tie then-presidential candidate Donald Trump to the Kremlin. The document was a key piece of evidence used by the FBI to obtain warrants to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Mr. Auten’s case assessment was one example Mr. Grassley provided, noting that his letter was “based on years of investigation, including the provision of information, records, and allegations from multiple Justice Department whistleblowers that indicate there is–and has been–an effort among certain Justice Department and FBI officials to improperly delay and stop full and complete investigative activity into the Biden family.”

Mr. Grassley said that the information provided by multiple credible whistleblowers over a number of years regarding alleged efforts to stymie investigations into the Biden family “point to significant political bias infecting the decision-making” at both the FBI and the DOJ.

The Republican senator said he had obtained a list of 25 names of FBI and DOJ personnel who had direct or indirect involvement in blocking or delaying Biden family investigations, including efforts to downplay the intel provided by the 40 FBI informants.

Mr. Grassley said he would be interviewing the 25 individuals at a future date and asked the FBI and DOJ to provide various records, including the case file for the Auten assessment.

‘Potential Criminal Activity’

The letter—and its claims about the 40 or so human intelligence sources whose information was allegedly at least in part discredited on questionable or false grounds—comes amid Mr. Grassley’s long-running investigation into the Biden family.

In September 2020, Mr. Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) released a report in which they noted the discovery of “potential criminal activity relating to transactions among and between Hunter Biden, his family, and his associates with Ukrainian, Russian, Kazakh, and Chinese nationals,” while Joe Biden was vice president during the Obama administration.
Later, the two senators presented bank records on the Senate floor showing CEFC China Energy, a now-defunct company, made payments to Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden, who faces criminal tax and gun possession charges, admitted during his failed plea deal hearing in July 2023 that he received over half a million dollars from CEFC China Energy.

Also, an IRS whistleblower told the House Ways and Means Committee that Hunter Biden demanded $10 million from CEFC, promising services from “the Bidens” in return.
