Britney Spears, who’s memoir has finally hit the shelves, has claimed she turned down an offer to star in the 2002 movie musical Chicago.
In “The Woman in Me”, the pop superstar revealed that she was approached by movie executives about starring in the movie adaptation of the famed musical. But, she turned the opportunity down because she struggled to separate herself from her character Lucy in her 2002 movie debut Crossroads.
“Chicago would have been fun,” Britney wrote. “It’s all dance pieces – my favorite kind: prissy, girly follies, Pussycat Doll-like, serve-off your-corset moves. I wish I’d taken that offer. I would have gotten to play a villain who kills a man, and sings and dances while doing it, too.”
The Toxic singer, 41, confessed that she should have tried a different approach to acting instead of simply turning it down. “I probably could have found ways, gotten training, to keep from becoming a Chicago character the way that I had with Lucy in Crossroads. I wish I’d tried something different.”
Britney Spears, in the autobiography, also explained that she adopted the method acting approach for Crossroads and it transformed who she was both on and off-screen. She also turned down the role of Allie in 2004’s The Notebook because of her experience making Crossroads.
