Drake Has Distanced Himself From Jewish Heritage, Says Akademiks

Drake is often criticized for not speaking on political issues given his far reach across the world, and DJ Akademiks has shared his thoughts on why that is the case in light of the worsening conflict in the Middle East.

In an interview snippet shared by VladTV on Sunday (October 22), the media personality discussed the extent to which Drizzy should comment on the violence between Israel and Palestine if he were to speak on it at all. If that happened, he pointed out that the Canadian star would still always be criticized for not doing enough, especially if he took a neutral stance.

“I can’t wait to tell people I’m Jamaican all the time,” he said to illustrate how the OVO boss doesn’t go about his identity that way anymore. “Do you think that Drake, at this point, is trying to let like— is he wearing the fact that he’s Jewish on his back?

“Not saying he’s not, but I don’t think that— I think he’s got away from tryin’ to be the, ‘Hey, this is the Jewish rapper.’”

A large number of influential public figures have remained silent on the escalating tension in Israel and Palestine. After the attacks in the region broke out earlier this month, DJ Vlad specifically called out Drake and DJ Khaled, who are of Jewish and Palestinian descent respectively, over their failure to comment about the crisis.

The media personality then doubled down on his opinion about their so-called “radio silence” during an interview with The Breakfast Club last week.

“You sort of see what’s been happening, when you look at the Gaza–Israel situation. It’s horrific,” he said. “And I put out a statement about that myself. I said, you know, that I feel sorry for all the citizens from Israel and Palestine that are caught up in what their leaders are choosing to do.”

He continued: “It’s a serious topic. And when I sat back and looked at it, I was like, Drake is the most famous Jewish person on Earth … and Khaled is the most famous Palestinian in the world. But neither one of them has said anything about this at all.”

“Drake is doing this whole thing where he’s literally writing paragraphs about Joe Budden because his feelings were hurt about an album review,” he concluded. “So it’s not like they don’t have time. This shit runs deep.”
