Why Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce attended a news conference dressed as Iowa St. mascot

Cy the Cardinal, Iowa State’s mascot, never stood taller. Because he lost a bet, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, entered the media room at the team’s training facility on Friday wearing a long yellow beak and red feathers. The bet? Iowa State, the alma mater of Chiefs vice president of football communications Brad Gee, versus Kelce’s school, Cincinnati. The Cyclones prevailed 30-10 at Cincinnati last weekend. “How we doing guys?” Kelce said through the costume. “I’ll give it about 2 more seconds.”

And then off it came. “Go Cyclones,” Kelce said. “Unfortunately, my Bearcats are struggling right now in the Big 12. It’s all right, We’ve got Baylor this week. Hopefully we can bounce back and get the train rolling.” It’s rarely a dull moment with Kelce, especially these days, as he’s dating music star Taylor Swift. Last weekend Kelce and Swift had small roles on the season debut of “Saturday Night Live.”

Kelce appeared in a skit that poked fun at the NFL for emphasizing their relationship. “It was funny,’ Kelce said. “Obviously didn’t know what was going to go down. (I) just decided to hit SNL at the last second, and they asked me if I wanted to end the skit that was about me and Taylor’s takeover of the NFL games, which was hilarious. I loved every bit of it. “I was laughing my tail off during the skit. To be honest, I don’t remember even saying anything. I hope I read the card right. The energy of the crowd, it felt like I was hosting it again.” Kelce spoke to a couple of other topics Friday: On the proliferation of Swift-Kelce Halloween costumes this season: “The mustache is slowly starting to disappear.

But I’ll tell you what, that ‘stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic for a little bit. I had it when I met Taylor for the first time.” On the popularity of the New Heights podcast he does with his brother, Jason. The brothers attended a Philadelphia Phillies playoff game this week. “Family time is priceless. Any time you get around your loved ones, you have to take advantage of that. … New Heights has been able to kind of bring together what we’ve really been missing since college days. Any chance I get to go and hang out with him, or see my mom and dad, I’m jumping at the bit.” Kelce said one of the big benefits of the podcast has been seeing their audience get to know Jason, the Philadelphia Eagles center. “Everybody getting to know my brother more, from a personal standpoint, getting an offensive lineman a little more face time,” Kelce said. “I think that’s been awesome.”
