Shawty Redd and Jeezy had one of the strongest rapper–producer alliances in Hip Hop, but their relationship soured on account of their affiliations — the veteran beatmaker has now shared new details about the fallout.
During an Instagram Live on Wednesday (October 18), the 42-year-old recalled a specific incident in Houston responsible for setting in motion the tiff that grew into the beef between Rap-A-Lot Records and BMF.
“Slim Thug first album release,” he began. “Slick Pulla slapped me ’cause I was fuckin’ with Gucci Mane. Jeezy tried to beat me up, ya feel me? They jumped me, but I was on J. Prince watch and that’s how the whole Rap-A-Lot–BMF shit started, but ain’t nobody finna tell you that.”

Meanwhile, Jeezy surprised fans on his birthday last month by putting out all of his legendary mixtapes on streaming services for the first time ever.
As the Atlanta rap superstar turned 46 in late September, he announced on Instagram that cult-classic mixtapes such as 2005’s Trap or Die, 2006’s I Am The Street Dream! and 2010’s The Last Laugh have all hit streaming platforms.
“It’s a real one’s birthday!” he began. “[Snowman emoji] I appreciate all the G-Day love and I have a gift for my day ones. 13 classics available now on all streaming platforms for the first time ever! Today we celebrate!”
Many of Jeezy’s rap contemporaries, including 2 Chainz, Bun B and Slim Thug, made sure to wish him a happy birthday under his post.
Every mixtape appears to be intact as the original release in terms of cover art graphics, track listing and features from various artists. Jeezy rose to prominence in rap music through the many mixtapes he released alongside DJ Drama, DJ Scream and DJ Infamous.
