Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith and Chris Rock have a relationship that is far from normal, and new details about their history have further validated this.
In an interview with PEOPLE published on Wednesday (October 11), the 52-year-old actor reflected on her past with Rock, from asking him to not host the 2016 Oscars in solidarity with the Black community to his comments about her hair six years later that resulted in her husband slapping him during a live broadcast viewed by millions.
In doing so, the Red Table Talk host revealed that Rock even asked her out once following rumors about her and Smith splitting.
“I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce,” she said. “And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’
“And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”

Pinkett is currently gearing up for the October 17 release of her book, Worthy, which will provide readers with further insight into her already public personal life. This will include the inner workings of her relationship with Will Smith and how their rocky marriage culminated in the infamous Oscars slap last year.
Also in the above exclusive, she said that her and Rock haven’t spoken since the incident but that she wishes him the best.
“[Do I have] any desire to talk to Chris?” she began. “Here’s my desire: I just hope that all the misunderstanding around this can be cleared up and that there can be peace.”
She also made it a point to clarify that she understands what his job as a comedian entails, saying: “I mean, that’s what comedians do. I would just have to say that I am not really here to make any judgment on how people decide to express themselves and express their art.
“I’ll say that several times I’ve had my feelings hurt, for sure. I’ve had my feelings hurt a lot by Chris. But at the end of the day, too, being in the spotlight, it comes with the territory.”
