There’s no denying that Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington are iconic supermodels. As stars of the new Apple TV+ docuseries The Super Models, the runway idols take viewers behind the scenes of what the industry was like in the 1990s for them — and while the four-episode documentary touches on other models of the decade, it only glosses over their influence.
You can’t talk about icons of the 1990s without mentioning Tatjana Patitz — who also starred in George Michael’s “Freedom ’90” music video with the famous foursome. You can’t talk about icons of the 1990s without acknowledging Claudia Schiffer’s struts as the Chanel Couture bride.
So while The Super Models tells the story of four supermodels of one of the most influential decades in fashion, it doesn’t tell all of their stories. Here are more famous faces of the 1990s who also commanded the catwalk and left their mark.
Claudia Schiffer

Claudia Schiffer has long been known as a face of Guess and Chanel, even modeling bridal looks for Chanel a number of times. Throughout the ’90s and into today, Schiffer has modeled for the likes of Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and more.
Tatjana Patitz

Known as one of the original supermodels, Germany-born, Sweden-raised Tatjana Patitz modeled for the likes of Chanel, Donna Karan, Vivienne Westwood and many more. She also starred alongside Crawford, Campbell, Evangelista and Turlington in George Michael’s “Freedom ’90” music video. Patitz walked her final runway in 2019 for Etro and died in January 2023.
Elle MacPherson

Elle MacPherson became synonymous with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in the 1980s and 1990s, appearing on the cover four times (and a fifth time in 2006). In her career, she’s walked the runways for Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Azzedine Alaïa and more.
Helena Christensen

One of the original Victoria’s Secret Angels in the 1990s, Helena Christensen was also known as part of the “Magnificent Seven” iconic models, dubbed by The New York Times in 1996. Alongside Crawford, Turlington, Campbell, Evangelista, Schiffer and MacPherson, Christensen was seen as a supermodel who was a legend of the catwalk.
Kate Moss
![Kate Moss walks the runway at the Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1993 fashion show during the Paris Fashion Week in January, 1993 in Paris, France.](https://people.com/thmb/rscBbEs1afSs_Jq8k2KFOBGyBWg=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2):format(webp)/90s-models-kate-moss-092023-36daefda61044711b8251cb2f7f82408.jpg)
Kate Moss — known in the ’90s as the “anti-supermodel” for being thin and less curvy than other popular models — has been modeling for what seems like her whole life (though she started in her teens). She’s most known for modeling for Calvin Klein, though she’s walked the runway for just about everyone, including Versace, Saint Laurent and more.
Tyra Banks
![Tyra Banks, London Fashion Week 1992, 9th October 1992](https://people.com/thmb/oY-Y6ACsSqB492tRFGlS5l3izIk=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(491x127:493x129):format(webp)/tyra-banks-50-091223-2-facca5977cfe4be4b033c068a974efb3.jpg)
As a teenager, Tyra Banks hit it big as a model, jetting off to Europe to stomp the runways for a number of huge fashion houses, including Christian Dior, Fendi, Givenchy and more. Banks also turned her fashion modeling gig into a big beauty gig, landing a contract with CoverGirl in the ’90s as well.
Stephanie Seymour

Shalom Harlow

Before Bella Hadid had a dress painted on her at Coperni, Shalom Harlow had her dress spray-painted by robots at Alexander McQueen’s 1999 show in London. The model, who was one of the It girls of the ’90s, also won Vogue/VH1’s inaugural Model of the Year award in 1995.
Beverly Peele

Beverly Peele was one of the most iconic (and one of the few) Black supermodels of the ’90s. She modeled for the likes of Prada, Ralph Lauren, Versace and more before cutting her own career short to focus on being a mom.
Carla Bruni
![Italian supermodel Carla Bruni Tedeschi presents July 18, 1993 in Paris a creation by Christian Lacroix during his 1993-1994 Fall/Winter high fashion show.](https://people.com/thmb/052jJFjyN7fiy2LlQsEl3QgGk58=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(1007x0:1009x2):format(webp)/90s-models-carla-bruni-092023-0607c69b685642cbb4f590fe0128cd79.jpg)
Italian model Carla Bruni was one of the most sought-after faces in the 1990s, modeling for fashion houses like Chanel, Saint Laurent and Givenchy. But even though Bruni had a successful modeling career, she decided to pivot to music in the late ’90s.
Amber Valletta
![Amber Valletta walks the runway at the Karl Lagerfeld Ready to Wear Fall/Winter 1993-1994 fashion show during the Paris Fashion Week in March, 1993 in Paris, France.](https://people.com/thmb/McHUnbw2Z_2MkyMvRQ60CP7ExL8=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2):format(webp)/90s-models-amber-valletta-092023-3fa89be4c379448a9744cafaef2ff41c.jpg)
Before Jennifer Lopez wore her famous green Versace dress to the Grammys in 2000, Amber Valletta wore it down the runway in 1999. She walked in a number of shows in the ’90s, for everyone from Dior to Chloe, Prada to Hermes.
Yasmeen Ghauri
![Yasmeen Ghuari walks the Yves Saint-Laurent Spring 1996 runway on October 14, 1995](https://people.com/thmb/R_gOsXaHs5XHhPy8s0RUnjuq6Ds=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2):format(webp)/90s-models-yasmeen-ghuari-092023-97fcd06ffc464312997c9a491421d8e0.jpg)
Paving the way for South Asian models who came after her, Yasmeen Ghauri modeled for Victoria’s Secret, as well as a number of high-fashion designers, like Chanel, LaCroix, Jean Paul Gaultier and more. She left modeling behind in the late 1990s to have a family.
Kristen McMenamy
![Kristen McMenamy at the Todd Oldham Spring 1993 show circa 1992 in New York City.](https://people.com/thmb/4dC3XVFQkYsUlcZNABw_brKwKZM=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2):format(webp)/90s-models-kristen-mcmenamy-092023-f9a22a68f6a8464d9cc7c15e60e715ff.jpg)
Known for her androgyny, Kristen McMenamy was ahead of her time in the 1990s. She worked with the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Chanel and Anna Sui, as well as iconic photographers Steven Meisel and Richard Avedon. McMenamy stepped away from modeling to start a family but ultimately returned to the gig later in life — and still walks the runway now.
Eva Herzigová
![Eva Herzigova in October 1993 walking the runway during Thierry Mugler Spring 1994 collection](https://people.com/thmb/3FkhgGRo7WbYfFmsS4MYbtcmQNE=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2):format(webp)/90s-models-eva-herzigova-092023-ab085ab417884008baf1d40201febb73.jpg)
Eva Herzigová started modeling as a teenager and only rose in fame from there. She walked runways and starred in campaigns for everyone from Thierry Mugler to Wonderbra. She dabbled in acting as well and even moved into the media space, working with Vogue Czechoslovakia.
Milla Jovovich
![Model Milla Jovovich, Missoni Spring 1997 Ready to Wear Runway Show](https://people.com/thmb/tWuiygn5ZJ-EhQFJLOqzrK0CiW0=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(999x0:1001x2):format(webp)/90s-models-milla-jovovich-092023-914e59717f3249789302b9669cb063c0.jpg)
You may know Milla Jovovich from her movie roles, but she’s also been a star on the runway — including gracing the ’90s catwalks for Missoni, Miu Miu, Fendi and more. She jump-started her modeling career before she even hit her teen years and has managed to maintain her careers — in film and modeling — ever since.
